Aaron Cresswell was not shown a red card after a dangerous tackle on Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson. VAR referee Stuart Attwell finally proved why the West Ham defender was not sent off.
The incident occurred when Liverpool visited West Ham headquarters, Sunday (11/7/2021) night WIB. The Reds hope to extend his positive streak at London Stadium.
Unfortunately, Jurgen Klopp's troops even forced their fingers to bite. Because the Hammers managed to beat the Reds with a score of 3-2.
Goals from West Ham scored Pablo Fornals, Kurt Zouma and Alisson Becker's own goal. Meanwhile, Liverpool's goals were scored by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Divock Origi.
As the game entered the eighth minute Aaron Cresswell tackled Jordan Henderson. From replays Cresswell's leg can be seen crashing near Henderson's knee.
Henderson sprawled on the pitch after being hit by Cresswell. However, referee Craig Pawson did not give a free kick for Liverpool.
The incident was reviewed by VAR Stuart Attwell, but assessing several incidents during the match, decided not to intervene and upped Pawson's decision.
In a statement released to Sky Sports after the game, the reason Attwell did not penalize Cresswell for his tackle was that the tackle did not have the required strength or intensity or clear contact.
