 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked as manager of Manchester United (MU). This is believed to be the result of the English club's humiliating 4-1 defeat at Watford.

Citing AFP, The Times, The Guardian and Manchester Evening News reported that the outcome of an emergency board meeting held after the Watford defeat. This ends the Norwegian coach's three-year tenure at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer himself in his post-match press conference admitted to being 'embarrassed' by his fifth defeat in the team. Previously, Manchester United had played seven matches in the Premier League this season.

"We lost," said Solskjaer.

"The first half was the worst we've ever played and it's difficult for me to explain why we played the way we did."

"The boys are in a terrible place... we have let ourselves and the fans down. It's hard to stand here and explain that, but that's football and we have to take criticism for that."

Solskjaer previously signed a July contract and is reportedly set to be awarded a £7.5m compensation package. The defeat experienced by Manchester United also occurred at times against Liverpool and Manchester City.
